Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that is different from waking or sleeping. The state of hypnosis is a deep state of rest. The mind and body relax. It feels like the state just before falling asleep, where a person is aware, willfully letting go of busy activity of the mind, feeling deeply relaxed. Relaxation and deep rest for the mind can be used to help a person heal.

The conscious mind lets go of its busy thoughts so that the subconscious mind is more accessible. The subconscious mind is responsible for 90% of our life patterns of perception and reaction. It prefers symbolism, metaphor, and imagery. Hypnosis involves communicating with the subconscious mind through this language. It is the language of the heart. A skilled hypnotherapist recognizes and communicates with the client using this language within the hypnotic state for behavioral change. Hypnosis will only work if a person is willing to be hypnotized. Change through hypnosis can only be effective if a person really desires it. The mind is highly responsive to suggestive influence, but only if it is in accord with a person's will.

Hypnosis is very safe and has many applications. It can be used to heal a variety of psychological issues. The duration of hypnosis sessions vary in length. Frequency of sessions will vary according to the issue and responsiveness of the client. If hypnosis is experienced repeatedly, the results of each experience will feel and be very different.

Clinical hypnotherapy is different from hypnosis. Clinical Hypnotherapy can be better understood recalling a personal experience of hypnosis or trance. If you have ever watched a powerful movie that absorbed your attention or you felt very plugged into an emotion you have experienced trance. This is a state of hypnosis. Everyone can experience hypnosis, providing they are willing. Clinical hypnotherapy involves using the simple shifting back and forth between the conscious and the subconscious mind therapeutically. The shifting is a natural process that we participate daily without effort. The therapist can direct the hypnosis effectively and safely to bring about behavioral change. This often involves working with the client's subconscious mental attitudes and the principles with which the mind operates.

The mind works according to certain principles called The Laws of the Mind. Working with hypnosis can be effective when the therapist respects these laws and integrates the understanding of the mind into therapy. By talking a person into hypnotic relaxation, we can simply access and work with these extraordinary qualities of of the mind for mental, physical and emotional ease. Hypnosis is the ability of the mind to access subconscious material and respond to suggestion.

Many conditions can be treated with hypnotherapy. Treatment is directed to specific goals for behavioral change. With clinical hypnosis, the therapist works strategically to assist the client with their goals that are defined by the client. Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy uses techniques to create lasting change through insight, emotional release, and behavioral change. This advanced treatment with clinical hypnosis can be very effective for deep healing and behavioral change, but requires the knowledge an training of a skilled mental health counselor.

Therapy goals may be behavioral such as smoking cessation or weight loss. Sometimes issues underlying the need for hypnosis are very complex, such as treating the anxiety beneath addiction or eating disorders. This requires more training and experience as a hypnotherapist and mental health counselor. Then hypnosis is not only used in the context of personal growth, but mental health. If the counselor knows how to work with emotional release and regression effectively, change is lasting and more integration takes place for the client. Advanced clinical hypnotherapy requires advanced skills in working with hypnosis and psychology for deep emotional healing of clinical issues. Treatment goals are set for the client depending on the therapists' skills and the client's individual needs.
